Former FDA Regulator Says LASIK Side Effects Weren’t Taken Seriously Enough. Excerpt: “But while the FDA was aware of negative side effects that would occur in some, Morris Waxler, the former head of the FDA branch responsible for reviewing the data on LASIK, told ABC News in his first television interview that, in hindsight, those side effects were not taken seriously enough… “I wouldn’t say it was pooh-poohed so much it was just sort of shoved aside as the kind of, we, we don’t know what to do with that data,” he said. “It’s right there in the record. The agencies and the refractive surgeons, people know these problems occur and there doesn’t seem to be a plan to handle some of the more difficult problems that are created.”

Monday, July 26th, 2010Dr. Rupal Shah, New Vision Laser Centers, India (drrupalshahlasik.com) presents one of the first videos with the new 500 KHz VisuMax Laser for creating the LASIK flap. This is then followed by corneal reshaping with the Carl Zeiss Meditec MEL 80 excimer laser. The combination of these two advanced machines for LASIK provides an unchallenged superior platform to perform LASIK to give the best results to your patients. Especially note the high speed, low OBL and ease of centration of the VisuMax femtosecond laser. Also note the complete absence of sub conjuctival hemorrages. Also, note the effectiveness of the tracker and speed of the MEL 80 excimer laser.

Ojas Laser Eye Centre – Lasik Procedure
Wednesday, July 14th, 2010LASIK is laser vision-correction in the blink of an eye . The ultimate solution to replacing contact lenses and spectacles. What is LASIK? LASIK stands for ‘Laser In-Situ Keratomileusis’ which means ‘ to shape the cornea within its layers with the use of the Excimer laser’. Hi-tech solution combining advanced computer technology with laser precision: LASIK is a skilled procedure that combines the state-of-the-art computer technology with advanced laser precision. While the earlier laser procedure viz PRK treated the surface of the cornea, LASIK treats the inner tissue of the cornea and restructures it in a manner which grains down myopia (minus power) and hypermetropia (plus power). LASIK Knowledge Centre: LASIK procedure-step-by-step: • First, the eye surgeon uses an instrument known as a microkeratome to make a thin flap of the outer layer of the cornea. • Then he folds back the flap, which remains attached on one side . • Next, he uses the cool laser light from the Excimer laser to ‘ablate” ie remove the pre-determined amount of tissue to reshape the cornea with great accuracy and corrects the individual’s refractive error. • The cornea is made flatter to treat near-sightedness, and steeper to treat far-sightedness and/or more spherical to correct astigmatism. • Finally, after the laser is administered, he lays back the corneal flap in its original position, where it bonds itself instantly. • Due to the extraordinary natural bonding qualities of the cornea, no …
